Matic Flajšman is a journalist with interests in cycling, handball, volleyball, and winter sports. Hailing from Celje, Slovenia, known as the handball cathedral of the country and the birthplace of handball club Celje Pivovarna Laško, he developed a passion for handball at an early age. While he didn’t achieve significant success as a player, he learned valuable lessons about the importance of hard work in pursuing one’s dreams. After experiencing a serious injury, he sought an alternative path in journalism and seized his first opportunity at a local level to explore the field. Today, he is a part of the sports department at Slovenia’s largest television station, Pop TV. Flajšman’s daily experiences involve learning from the best and working with the biggest sports stars in Slovenia, which also carries weight on a global scale. Slovenia’s cycling scene, in particular, has been thriving, with notable talents like Tadej Pogačar and Matej Mohorič making waves internationally. Pogačar’s consistent dominance as the top-ranked UCI rider for over 135 weeks and Mohorič’s gravel world championship victory, along with his poignant interviews, stand as testament to Slovenia’s prowess in the sport. The mention of Bahrain Victorious is significant as it represents a cycling team where Slovenian expertise, combined with exceptional and unencumbered riders, shapes compelling sports narratives. The team’s emphasis on equipment development over solely relying on cycling superstars underscores a strategic approach towards sustainable success. He is a long-time member of the Society of Sports Journalists of Slovenia (Slovenia’s Association of Sports Journalists) and the International Association of Sports Journalists (AIPS). In his free time, Matic Flajšman engages in various projects, serving as a moderator, event leader, and participant in online roundtables focused on sports marketing and related topics. Additionally, he takes on roles such as leading the opening ceremonies of significant sports events and moderating sports-related gatherings.
